LOgan COunty Genealogical Society Member Banquet
Sunday, September 15 2013 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM
On September 15, 2013, we will be holding our annual Lineage Society and
Membership Banquet for the Logan Genealogical Society. We would like to
invite everyone to attend this meeting, even if they are not a Lineage
Society Member, as we are planning a program with a twist that we think
anyone with a hint of wonder about the mysteries of our past will enjoy.
This year’s banquet is a “Progressive Banquet” and includes activities
throughout the day centered around one of our county’s historic little
towns, Zanesfield. Attendees are welcome to come for the entire program
or even portions of the program if they are unable to stay for the entire
The program will begin at 2 PM at the Zanesfield Park. We will meet at
the shelter house there and then proceed up the street to Myeerah’s Inn.
From there, we will participate in the “Walking Tour” of Zanesfield, with
local historian, Polly Bargar. Stops along our route will include
Myeerah’s Inn, Isaac and Myeerah’s grave marker, China Flats, the Country
Patchwork Shop (aka, Antrim’s or the Betty Zane Tavern), and also the
Ebeneezer Zane Cabin at the Helen Wonders Blue Park. (For those unable to
walk the town, they are welcome to drive from location to location.)
Special guest speakers along our route will discuss the different aspects
of Zanesfield and give a historical perspective on how, even if someone is
not from Zanesfield, events that occurred there could have impacted their
life today or the lives of their ancestors.
Once the tour of the town is complete, we will meet back at the Zanesfield
park and proceed out to the Goshen Friends Church where we will continue
our “family reunion” style afternoon with a tour and discussion of the
Goshen Cemetery that is under an ongoing restoration effort by the Girl
Scouts of East Liberty, the history of the Church and the surrounding
valley, and a sit down picnic with fellow attendees. Then, to round out
our evening, we will be inducting our 2013 Ancestors of Distinction for
First Families, Pioneer Families, Civil War Families and Century Families
of Logan County.
Please plan to attend this eventful afternoon that will have some
surprises, some little known facts, and maybe a story or two of ancestors!
We would love to have our guests share their own tales of Zanesfield as
we progress throughout our day! (Members are also encouraged to bring
pictures, mementos, etc. , to share with other members during our picnic
time but the Society will not be responsible for lost, stolen or damaged
items.) For more details, please call the Society office at 937-593-7811.
Reservations are requested just so we have an idea of the number for the
walking tour and for the picnic but last minute friends or family members
are always welcome!!! (Meat, drink and table service will be
provided...please bring a side dish or dessert to share with others.) In
the event of in climate weather, the event will be held starting at 2 PM
at the Family Life Center of Goshen Friends Church and will include a
program to replace the walking tour.
