SPAMOLOT INVADES URBANA UNIVERSITY

(Urbana, OH) – April 16, 2013 – The Urbana University Singers and friends will present the Tony Award-winning Best Musical of 2005, Monty Python's Spamalot, in Urbana University’s Warren G. Grimes Center on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20, 2013. Curtain time for each performance is 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 and only available at the door. Admission is free for UU students, faculty, and staff with a current University ID.

Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and their quest for the Holy Grail, Monty Python's Spamalot features a chorus line of dancing divas and knights, flatulent Frenchmen, killer rabbits, and one armless knight.

The Urbana University production features students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University. The lead role of King Arthur is portrayed by Cody Peterson of Piqua, who is joined on his quest by loyal knights including: Galahad, portrayed by Matt Patton from Urbana; Bedevere, Zack Iiames, New Carlisle; Robin, played by UU’s director of campus life, Mitch Joseph; and Lancelot, Lucas Keeran of Saint Paris. John-Mark Howley of Mechanicsburg plays King Arthur’s trusty sidekick Patsy.  Mercedes Dagnan, from Medway, portrays leading lady, The Lady of the Lake. Monty Python’s own Eric Idle is featured as the Voice of God.

Other roles in the performance are portrayed by Dr. Brian Elliott, UU assistant professor of English; Heather Berry, Springfield; Kris Doggett, Urbana; Katie Dudgeon, Bellefontaine; Courtney Elliott, Alliance; Alexandra Harenburg, Catawba; Jacqueline Howley, Mechanicsburg; Joanna Howley, Mechanicsburg; Heather Hutchinson, Urbana; Rachel Kelly, Lancaster; Destiny Leiker, Urbana; Kayli Lucious, Columbus; Dorian Mudge, Urbana; Doug Oelker, West Liberty; Emily Smith, Urbana; and, Casey White of Bellefontaine.

The show is directed by Robert Marks, director of Choral Activities. Gina Grusenmeyer of Tipp City is choreographer and Kim Hazlewood of Mount Gilead is the stage and prop master assisted by Bryant Runyon of Marysville. Kathleen Ollhoff, West Liberty, contributes as hair stylist and make-up coordinator. Samantha Little, of Columbus, and Tom Murphy provide sound and lighting support. Little and Jesse Beal, of Dayton, designed the program. Rick Benning and Ambience Events of Springfield assisted with many set pieces.

Lovingly "ripped-off" from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python's Spamalot is the winner of three 2005 Tony Awards including, Best Musical and Best Director (Mike Nichols), as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Musical.  The original cast recording of Monty Python' Spamalot won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. Music is by John Du Pres and Eric Idle, and the original screenplay is by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin.

The original Broadway production was produced by Boyett Ostar Productions, The Shubert Organization, Arielle Tepper Madover, Stephanie McClelland/Lawrence Horowitz, Elan V McAllister/Allan S. Gordon, Independent Producers Network, Roy Furman, GRS Associates, Jam Theatricals, TGA Entertainment, and Live Nation. Urbana University’s performance of Spamalot is produced by arrangement from Theatrical Rights Worldwide, Inc.
